Below is the sheet music for the Protective Tariff Grand March, written by Will L. Thompson in 1893. The cover features the Knowles, Taylor & Knowles pottery of East Liverpool, Ohio. It was inspired by the tariffs on imports which was a hot political issue for most of the 1890s.
In 1894, the Wilson-Gorman Tariff Act cut taxes on imports which impacted many manufacturing industries in the United States, particularly the pottery industry. For more on the tariff act and the formation of the White Granite and Semi-Porcelain Manufacturers' Association, see this page.
