Eighteen beauties from the Chester - Newell - New Cumberland areas have underlined Nov. 17 in their date books as one night when it won't do to be late.

That's the date for the selection of "Miss Hancock County" and perhaps a stepping stone to fame during West Virginia's Centennial celebration in 1963.

There are also 13 girls from Weirton entered in the competition - making 31 in all the quest of the county title. The winner will be named during a program at 8 p.m. in the auditorium of Weir High School in Weirton. The county's queen will advance to the state contest in Charleston Dec. 14.

There are 12 entries from Chester. They are: Saundra A. Aken, 18; Belva Boyd 20; Sharon Finley, 18; Donna Gower, 19; Judith House, 22; Diane Huff, 18; Thea McSwegin, 22; Jeanne Miller, 20; Susan Louise Miller, 19; Mary Lee Mosser, 19; Judith Ann Nesselroad, 20, and Darlene Rae Walker, 19.

Entered from Newell are Jeanne Marcise Bailey, 18; Carla Sue Grimm, 20; Susan McKenna, 18, and Lois Anne Smith, 19.

New Cumberland's representatives are Myrna Kay McSwegin, 20, and Brenda Ann Herron, 22.

Judges for the county contest are John Pinney, vice president and general superintendent of the Harker Potter Co.; Mrs. Harry Newburn, editor of the Hancock County Courier; William Tompos, state senator from Weirton, Charles McKinney, assistant superintendednt of county schools, and Miss Esther Greenberger, operator of a women's apparel shop in Weirton.

Sponsors of the county contest are the Chester Arts Club, Chester Junior Women's Club, Chester Civic Club, New Cumberland Young Women's Club, Newell Women's Club, Weirton Women's Club, and Weirton Junior Women's Club.

Mrs. Clarence Stetson of Weirton is general chairman. Miss Betty Buben of Chester is treasurer and ticket chairman. Tickets for the program may be purchased from the club committees or at the school.
