ELEPHANT PLATES

The first two pieces below are of elephant border plates from 1931. From the middle of June to the end of July of that year, the following pieces were created for the line: 6" bowl, plate, mug, and a creamer. The intention was to create a Jumbo Sam box set. After the mug and creamer were modeled in the last week of July, no more pieces were developed.

Both plates shown come from 1931. The example on the left was dipped in transparent green glaze #666. The plate on the right was given an opaque pastel blue glaze which was used as a test glaze in the early 1930s on other examples of HLC ware.

All of the pieces shown on this page are from the collection of The Fiesta® Tableware Company (formerly HLCCo.)

PET BOWLS

The following bowls have various embossed animals or pets. These were noted in the art department records as "pet bowls" which were modeled in January of 1933. Samples were made on February 12th and 20th in various glazes including vellum, yellow, green, and blue.

The embossed pets are: puppy, kitten, lamb, ducking, baby chick, and rabbit.

(Note: The glaze on the blue bowl is so thick that I had to adjust the contrast settings for the embossing to show up. The true color can be seen in the marking picture.)
