The pedestal bowl started out as a fruit colander. It was modeled on January 30, 1996. It was made so the bottom could have holes pierced through it (in the same manner as holes in salt and pepper shakers). The inside was made without rings, and the outside bottom was made flat without a marking.

In early 1997, was decided to make a fruit bowl in the same style, but drop the colander idea. On February 5, 1997, a set of rings was added to the inside and it was given an embossed Fiesta® circular marking.
After a few minor revisions, it was put into production. The name was changed from fruit bowl to pedestal bowl. It first appeared as product item number 765 in the April 1998 brochure, as seen here.
