The soup tureen was created to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Fiesta®. They were offered in box sets which included the tureen, embossed lid, plate/liner, a ladle, and a certificate of authenticity. The bases were given a special overglaze marking and were numbered. Although the marking suggests 10,000 were made, the actual figure is closer to 5,000. All of the boxed tureens were made in the limited-edition color, marigold.
The original design for the tureen was spherical and resembled a cookie jar. Samples of the base and lid were made in Marigold before it was decided to make a larger version. Both the prototype and the production tureens were made at Hall China in East Liverpool, Ohio.
The plate/liner was restyled with an updated embossed design for the Fiesta®'s 80th anniversary in 2016. They were glazed in the newest color at the time, claret.
