Fiesta® Teapots
Vintage Large Teapot

The large Fiesta® 8- cup teapot was part of the original assortment when it was introduced in January 1936. It remained in production until it was discontinued in 1946.

It can be found in the first six colors: red, blue, yellow, (light) green, old ivory, and turquoise, and with at least three distinct debossed marks.

Vintage Medium Teapot

The medium 6- cup teapot was added to the line in 1937. It was made in all eleven standard Fiesta® glazes until the line itself was discontinued in 1969. These colors include red, blue, yellow, (light) green, turquoise, old ivory, rose, chartreuse, forest green, gray, and medium green.

Besides their size, there are several differences between the large and medium teapots. The lid for the large teapot has a flared finial. It was made separately and applied before bisque firing. The lid on the medium teapot looks more like a gum drop and was part of the lid's mold. This meant the lid and finial were made as one piece. The large teapot handle is a ring shape, whereas the medium teapot handle is a partial ring or "C" shape. Finally, the top of the large teapot spout is flat; the medium teapot spout is curved.

There were at least two markings used on the medium teapot.

Amberstone/Ironstone Teapot

The medium teapot was restyled in the late 1960s for the supermarket promotion, Sheffield Amberstone. There were three major differences between the standard medium teapot and the restyled version: the finial was given a more contemporary look, there was no vent hole, and the marking was removed.

The restyled teapot was also made in antique gold for Fiesta® Ironstone (1969 - 1973) and Coventry Casualstone (1970).

When the factory was getting ready to reintroduce Fiesta® in 1985, it was decided the medium teapot lid would be used on the large teapot base. Shown below is the original brochure featuring the odd combination. At least one such example is known to exist in cobalt.

On December 31. 1985, the domed Amberstone/Ironstone coffee pot lid was given a new finial. It was then settled that the new lid would be used on both the coffee pot and the large teapot. Due to the newer clays and firing temperatures, the coffee pot tended to warp. As a result, it had to be completely redesigned. While the domed lid was dropped for the coffeepot, it remained in use for the teapot.

If you have a large teapot base (with a wide opening) and you're not 100% sure if it is vintage or contemporary, the dimple test will help. Look inside where the handle meets the body. If there is a dimple, then it is contemporary. If the inside is relatively smooth, then it is vintage.

The domed lid does not fit well on the teapot base. This was corrected in July 1991, when both the lid and base were redesigned for a better fit. While the overall shape of the teapot remained the same, the opening of the base was made smaller, and the lid was given a new flange to better fit the new base.

Besides a few very minor lid revisions (one in 1992 and another in 1994), this version of the covered teapot remained in production until 2021. Both styles of teapot bases used the same Logo/Made in USA marking as their vintage counterpart. In many cases, the glaze is rather thick, obscuring most of the mark.

Contemporary Covered Teapot, 2nd version

The covered teapot was replaced by a new version with a large "C" shape handle and longer spout. Besides pouring better, the current teapot is also easier to handle.

It was one of the first pieces of Fiesta created after the pottery was reorganized into the Fiesta® Tableware Company in 2020. The teapot is marked with a debossed Fiesta® USA logo.

2-Cup Covered Teapot

The small 2-cup teapot was modeled on May 1, 1996. It was created along with a small sugar and small creamer to be part of a child's tea set. The teapot wasn't put into production until 1998. It was offered as part of the planned child's tea set and as an individual item.

It was discontinued as a standard piece in 2010, but it has been made in extremely limited quantities as an auction piece to benefit charities, namely the HLCCA and the Museum of Ceramics. Such colors include marigold, flamingo, lapis, claret, daffodil, meadow, butterscotch, and twilight.

Colonial Teapot

The Colonial shape teapot was part of the factory's foodservice line for many years. It was glazed in many Fiesta® colors and sold as part of the Fiesta® Mates/Colorations line. They were marked with an HLC backstamp and date code.

Shown are decorated Colonial teapots with three in Fiesta®'s periwinkle, turquoise, and lilac colors. They have also been found in black, white, rose, apricot, cobalt, sea mist, persimmon, cinnabar, and sunflower. Other colors may exist.
