Modern Star

[DSN:UNK, NS:FAC]

Production for Modern Star was shared with the Taylor, Smith & Taylor Co. of Chester, West Virginia. In order to maintain consistency, some items used TS&T's Versatile shape. For example, Rhythm saucers measure 6" while TS&T's Versatile saucers are 6 ½". As a result, Homer Laughlin opted to make Versatile saucers so they would match.First used on Rhythm with platinum trim for Quaker Oats QO-22, circa 1958

There were five different pieces of Modern Star customers could find in boxes of oats: tea cup, saucer, 6" plate, oatmeal bowl, and fruit cup. They could then send away for larger pieces which included: two sizes of platters, 10" and 9" plates, serving bowl, covered sugar, and creamer, all from the Rhythm shape.
