Harold D. Gregory was principal at Wells High from 1943 until his death on April 26, 1960
during the school year. He was born on March 23, 1911, the son of Lester and Margie (Steele) Gregory.
He graduated from Wells High in 1929 and obtained his bachelors and masters degrees at West Virginia University.
Gregory also attended West Virginia Business College. Besides being Wells' longest running principal, he was the charter president
of the Newell Lions Club in 1947-1948.
His wife, Kathryn (Keck) Gregory (1914-1998) was born and raised in Morgantown, West Virginia. She also attended WVU and would eventually
teach at Chester Jr. High in Chester, WV. Both are buried at Locust Hill Cemetery in Chester.
